DENNIS & HYEJIN JUNE 2015
Bridesmaids
Sharon Sul (Maid of Honor) is my big sister. I used to find ways to annoy her for fun and try to copy her every move, and steal all her clothes. But, that was (is) because I look up to her. She’s raised two amazing boys and has such a sacrificial and loving heart. She is also my partner in crime. We dance like crazy people, sing out of tune, and make strange noises to each other. One of my favorite memories is when we were kids, the only night she would let me sleep on her bed was Christmas Eve, and that was so we could wear Christmas pajamas, and stay up all night while singing Christmas songs (loudly, and poorly) in anticipation of the gifts. She is a ferocious woman of God, and a police office to boot. Watch out, Georgia Tech!
Daniella Choi. Daniella and I have the same personality type (INTJ), so when we are together, my soul feels happy - as if kindred spirits have united. We were neighbors for two years, and some of my fondest memories are of sitting in Daniella’s living room. We would often stop by each others houses, just to say hello and end up staying up late laughing hysterically until we realized we had a memo due the next day. We’d often have study dates, whilst drinking tea, and eating some “healthy” baked good recipe Daniella had concocted. We can talk about anything and everything - from God, to public policy memos, to boys. Daniella is finishing a two-year stint in The Gambia, West Africa with the Peace Corps.
Agnes Chao. Our relationship started off with all things girly. I started talking to her because I wanted dating advice. And then we planned fabulous birthday parties together, as April birthday twins. But, then as time passed, our relationship deepened. In college, I remember one time we cried together in the car and then we prayed and ate ice cream shakes from Cookout afterwards. I have poured out my heart to Agnes, and she has listened without judgment, and a heart full of love, gently pointing me back to God. Even though we have been apart while she has been in medical school in Singapore, whenever we are reunited, it is as if nothing has changed.
Carrie Ho. We met at Duke, and started hanging out sophomore year. My first memory of meeting Carrie is sitting in the auditorium at Rockbridge (annual InterVaristy retreat). Most of my memories with Carrie are of ‘making trouble’ together on Friday nights. We were also fellow adventurers and explorers of Durham for a year after graduating. We explored many new restaurants, and also spent many nights just rolling around on my apartment floor. She is also one of Dennis and my favorite people to hang out with - every time she is back in the Bay, we eat sushi together at TGI Sushis in San Jose (try the Peter and Eric Special!) Carrie is in medical school in Ohio.
Carol Shih. The first time I met Carol she was washing dishes at a beach house. That is Carol. She’s always doing things for other people. She is also one of the most blunt people I know - but in the best way. She isn’t afraid to say the truth you need to hear and she’s called me out, and saved my butt in several precarious situations, which I won't mention here. I was privileged to live with her for a few months when she first moved to San Francisco, and we bonded over our fourth roommate, Pancake the gregarious (read: loud) and portly munchkin cat. Carol is a writer, and she currently works at Sunset Magazine.
